What are Supplements?

Something added to complete or make an addition to an already organized and arranged system. It can make up for a deficiency or added to strengthen the whole.

  * For your body to function optimally, your diet must include sufficient amounts of micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Because of busy lives and hectic schedules, our diet is often times deficient in important nutrients, therefore the need to "supplement" with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants--all essential to a healthy body.

What is a vitamin?

Various fat or water-soluble organic substances essential in minute amounts for normal growth and development of the body. Vitamins are obtained naturally from plant and animal foods. Examples are vitamin A, B, C, D, and E.

What is a mineral?

An inorganic element that is essential to the nutrition of humans, animals, and plants. Examples are calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, zinc, magnesium, and chromium.

What is an antioxidant?

A chemical compound or substance that inhibits the negative metabolic effects of oxygen combined with another element. Examples are vitamin E, vitamin C, beta-carotene, Alpha Lipoic acid, Co Q10 as well as many herbal preparations.

What is an amino acid?

The organic, structural components that make proteins. There are 20 essential amino acids that the body requires through dietary or supplement intake. Examples are L-Glutamine, L-Arginine, L-Leucine, L-Ornithine, L-Tyrosine, L-Glycine, plus more.

What are essential fats?

Natural oils that are found in plant and animal sources. The focus is obtaining enough omega 3 oil in your diet. These fats work to support hormone development, act as antioxidants and support healthy cell membrane function. Examples are Cod liver oil, Flax seed oil, raw nuts and seeds.

The importance of taking a multiple vitamin - mineral:

Because of the lack of time, skipped meals, improperly balanced diets and therefore not getting the proper nutrients, a multiple vitamin/mineral can be a good "insurance policy" against poor health. A multiple gives you a boost with B vitamins, plenty of calcium for strong bones and generally helps with lethargy, and supports a strong immune system to fight off viruses and the general "blahs". Our Basic V is a good "all around" multiple for every member of the family.
